When you consider that the world's largest warehouse measures the size of 80 football pitches, you can perhaps begin to appreciate the vastness of some of the biggest storage facilities in the world! 10. Tesla Warehouse, California

The vehicle manufacturer Tesla Motors expects to expand its vehicle production to 500,000 cars per year by 2018 and has the 10th largest warehouse in the world. Located in Fremont, California, United States, it covers an area of just under 500,000 square feet.

9. Meyer Werft, Germany

Meyer Werft is one of the biggest and oldest warehouses in the world. The ship builder's facilities were built in 1795 and include a 678,000 square feet warehouse, containing some of the largest and most luxurious cruise liners in the world. Since its inception, if you placed the number of ships it has housed end-to-end, they would stretch more than 132 miles!

8. Tesco Distribution Centre, Ireland

Supermarket giant Tesco built its distribution centre in 2007, at a cost of more than 70 million euros. It measures slightly more than 863,000 square feet and is located in Lanestown, Ireland.

7. Morrisons Distribution Centre, England

Located in Sittingbourne, Morrisons' Distribution Centre can trump the Tesco centre in terms of vastness. Measuring a massive 919,443 square feet, the retail giant combined its construction with environmentally-friendly practices to provide a nature hub and conservation projects too.

5. Shaw National Distribution Centre, England and Amazon Fulfilment Centre, Scotland

Two warehouses tie in fifth place, each having an area of a whopping one million square feet: Shaw National Distribution Centre in Lancashire is the distribution centre for logistics giant Yodel and retail supergroup Shop Direct Group which owns Littlewoods, Very and Isme. Amazon Fulfilment Centre in Dunfermline belongs to the planet's largest retailer. Surprisingly, it doesn't have the single largest warehouse in the world.

4. Jean-Luc Lagardere Plant, France

The Jean-Luc Legardere plant in the city of Toulouse, France spans 1.32 million square feet. This is hardly surprising, since it constructs the world's largest airliner, the Airbus 380.

3. Target Import Warehouse, Washington

As the USA's second-largest discount retail brand, Target Corporation owns Walmart and handles its imported goods. Target's massive two million square feet warehouse in Lacey, Washington distributes to the Walmart's regional warehouses. This is the biggest of the Target chain of warehouses across the States.

2. John Deere Warehouse, Illinois

Another American warehouse takes the runners-up spot! The John Deere Warehouse in Milan, Illinois manufactures industrial products such as construction, agricultural and forestry machinery, lawn care equipment and diesel engines. Its warehouse is the largest factory parts warehouse in the world, measuring 2.6 million square feet, and is the distribution centre for its north American business.

1. Boeing Everett Factory, Washington

Measuring an astounding 4.3 million square feet, the title of the biggest warehouse in the world goes to the Boeing Everett factory in the USA. Not only is it the biggest warehouse, it's also the biggest building in the world in terms of total area. It could comfortably accommodate 80 football pitches - and there would still be some space to spare! It hosts the assembly operation for the Boeing aircraft including the 787 Dreamliner, the 777 and the 767.
