Coca-Cola - Holidays are Coming

Featuring the famous big red truck packed full of bottles of ice-cold Coke, the iconic Coca-Cola advert, Holidays are Coming, is still going strong 22 years after it was first launched. It appears on our TV screens every year, confirming that the festive season is very nearly upon us!

The advert was first screened in the Christmas of 1995, when it was called the Christmas Caravan. It featured a cavalcade of red trucks in convoy, spreading Christmas cheer to thousands of people as it stopped off in towns across the USA.

In 1996, the advert carried the Holidays are Coming jingle and blew most of the other festive adverts out of the water with its message of warmth and good cheer. Today, the theme hasn't dated at all and it remains as relevant as it was in the '90s - showing true Christmas spirit, as gifts are given to everyone along the truck's route.

The famous Coca-Cola truck has been touring round the UK every Christmas for the past seven years, stopping off at 42 locations to hand out bottles of the most famous fizzing drink on the planet. This year's tour started in Glasgow on 11th November and will visit 42 stops across the nation during the festive season - the final stop will be Lakeside, Essex, on 17th December.

Visitors can enjoy more attractions than ever before at this year’s tour. At every stop-off point, you can take festive selfies and project them on to the side of the truck, while sipping on a 150ml can of Coca-Cola Classic, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, or Diet Coke, in an atmospheric setting resembling a winter wonderland.

Anyone visiting the truck at sunset will be treated to a special animated celebration of Coca-Cola and Christmas. The tour is also promoting recycling and at every stop, there will be a call to action for those attending to recycle cans and bottles - in line with the brand's recent Love Story recycling advert.

Over the past seven years, the truck tour across the UK has welcomed thousands of fans who have taken more than 50,000 festive photographs. It has travelled more than 730,000 miles, which is the equivalent distance of driving round the world 29 times. Adorned with 8,772 twinkling fairy lights, it proudly plays the famous Holidays are Coming jingle.

The first airing this year of the Holidays are Coming advert took place on 17th November on Channel 4 and it will continue throughout the festive period. Marketing chiefs at Coca-Cola say the brand is synonymous with the festive season, with the big red truck marking the unofficial Christmas countdown as it spreads holiday cheer.

The famous Coca-Cola red trucks were created in time for Christmas 1995 by advertising agency WB Doner for the brand's new festive advertising campaign. The illuminated lorries, known as Christmas Caravans, are made more magical in the adverts thanks to the amazing special effects created by the world-famous company, Industrial Light and Magic - best known for its work on the Star Wars films.

Images of the Coca-Cola Santa, created by artist Haddon Sundblom, adorn the sides of the trucks and at the end of the advert, Santa smiles broadly and raises a bottle of Coke in a cheery holiday toast.

The Santa Packs of Coca-Cola were first launched in 1996, with their special Christmas packaging. By 1998, the iconic Christmas advert was being broadcast to millions of viewers in more than 100 countries across the globe - a trend which has continued to this day.
